On July 1, 2021 just before midnight, the Kent County Sheriff Office responded to Cascade Rd SE just north of 36th St SE on a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle. Deputies responded and found 50-year-old Michael Emaus, from Waterford, lying on the ground, unresponsive. He would later die from his injuries.
The investigation revealed Michael was visiting friends nearby and rode a one-wheel motorized skateboard to the store prior to the accident. On his way back he was riding in the roadway and was struck by a vehicle. The suspect vehicle and driver have not been identified.
